As I heard of Polly's death, I could not help but be taken back over the years reflecting on the amazing woman, mother, and friend she was. I see her coming out that front door, or sitting with Fred on the porch .. hearing her laugh or yell..whichever was appropriate. Growing up can be a bittersweet experience. Polly made sure there was always the sweet. With tough love, fairness, Polly always was engaging, made you feel like you were her priority as she listened with empathy and counciled with wisdom. Time goes by so fast..I have grieved her death as you all have. The landscapes of the neighborhood have changed...what will remain in my reflection of "home" is Polly Caramanica..A truly extraordinary example of unselfish loyalty and devotion to her family. I can honestly say without hesitation I to was a recipient. My warmest love to you all. Jeannine Galloway

My dear sister Polly will be greatly missed, for she was deeply loved and she will always be in our hearts as an amazing woman with a heart of gold. I am forever grateful to Polly & Fred for the sacrifice and unending love they extended to me and my brothers and sisters after the death of our parents, James & Veronica Hickey in 1969. Polly & Fred helped to keep the five young Hickey children still at home (Richard, Stephen, Theresa, Mark & James), from becoming orphans and wards of the state. (Gerard, U.S. Navy & Eugene, U.S. Army were already on duty to their country in the service). They brought their two beautiful daughters, Ellen & Chickie to the house in Quincy and combined our two households into one loving family. Because of them, we were able to remain a strong and loving family. They were our mother and father for all these years. No debt of gratitude can ever repay them for their amazing generosity and unending love and kindness. Polly was so much more than a sister to me and I am so blessed by her loving kindness and wisdom as she influenced the direction of my life. I love you Polly. Go with God and rest in eternal peace in His loving arms. Love always, Richard
