Mary Ellen (Carey) Hevner, 74, formerly of Brockton, MA passed away on Friday, March 18, 2016 surrounded by her loving family. Mary Ellen was born in Quincy, MA, the youngest daughter of James and Margaret Carey.

Mary Ellen grew up in Quincy and attended Mt St. Joseph Academy on Brighton, MA. She lovingly raised her family in Brockton and worked the majority of her career  as a customer service representative at Verizon Communications where she retired in 2008.

Her favorite things to do were spending time with her family, and in her younger years, being the central coordinator of regular family holiday functions with her sisters, Alice and Margaret. She was a fantastic cook and could host a function for any number of people. A voracious reader, she was a member of the book club at New Horizons in Marlboro, MA. She was known for her quick wit and her ability to make friends anywhere.

She was devoted to her three children, Thomas Hevner, Jr. and his wife Rosemarie of Lincoln, RI, James Hevner and his wife Cindi of Lowell, MA and Karen (Hevner) Keese and her husband John of Clinton, MA, as well as her seven grandchildren, Benjamin Hevner, Ryan and Emily Keese, Mea, Cameron and Christopher Hevner and James Waible, Jr. Mart Ellen was the sister of Alice Carey of Falmouth and the late John Carey, Margaret (Carey) Lytle and Donald Carey.

Adored by her family, her children and grandchildren, Mary Ellen was a kind and wonderful woman who will truly be missed by all who knew her.

Family and friends are invited to gather in remembering Mary Ellen on Monday, March 28, 2016 from 4:00 to 8:00PM at the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home 74 Elm St. Quincy Center. On Tuesday there will be a gathering at the funeral home at 10:00AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00AM at St. Joseph’s Church 550 Washington St. Quincy. Burial is at Mt. Wollaston Cemetery.
