Obituaries

Mary K. (Omar) Hassan of Boxborough, formerly of So. Weymouth, died after a long illness at Emerson Hospital in Concord on Sunday, July 18, 2010 at age 89. Born in Highland Park, MI, she moved at age 9 to Quincy where she attended school and graduated from Quincy High. After marrying her late husband in 1937, they settled in Quincy for 11 years then moved to So. Weymouth. She moved to Boxborough 13 years ago. Mary was a founding member of the Islamic Center of New England in Quincy, was a member of the Eastern Star, volunteered with several charities including Meals on Wheels and tutored Arabic in elementary schools. Known to be a humanitarian, she was a wonderful cook and beautiful dresser and loved caring for her garden and plants.

The beloved wife of the late Fauthal Abduh Hassan, Mary was the loving mother of Richard Hassan of Santa Monica, CA, Michael Hassan of Cabo, Mexico, Mary Lahaj of Boxborough and Donna DeVita of Acton, sister of David Omar and Sonny Omar, both of Braintree and is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

A prayer service will be held on Wednesday, July 21 at 11:00am at the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home 74 Elm St. Quincy Center. Family and friends are invited. Burial will follow at Mt. Wollaston Cemetery.
