Michael P. Dorn of Braintree, 66, passed away peacefully on May 24, 2014 after a long illness.  Affectionately known as “Dinka”, Michael was born in Boston, MA, the son of the late Francis and Elinor Dorn. A life-long resident of Braintree, Michael spent his childhood summers in Brewster, MA and graduated from Braintree High School in 1966. He joined the U.S. Navy in January 1968, serving as Petty Officer 3rd Class aboard the U.S.S. Yorktown CV-10. Michael then joined the Massachusetts State Police in 1971, graduating with the 56th R.T.T. He served the MSP for 34 years as a trooper assigned to various units, including many years as an arson investigator in the State Fire Marshall’s Office. Michael married Carol (Bertolon) on January 25, 1974 and they raised three children, living for the past 31 years in Braintree where they created decades of memories with their family and many close friends. More than anything, Michael was happiest when he was experiencing the joys of life with his family, including summers camping on Cape Cod, winter vacations in Maine, watching his boys play football throughout their lives, including Chris at Norwich University and Matt at Trinity College, as well as seeing Stephanie graduate from Harvard University and the University of Michigan Law School, and playing with his cherished grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by many loving friends and family.

Michael is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Carol, as well as by his three children and their families: Stephanie & husband Brian Miller of Evanston, IL; Christopher and his wife Kathleen of Hingham, MA; and Matthew & wife Keriann of Weymouth, MA.  He also leaves six loving and amazing grandchildren: Nathaniel Miller, Olivia, Jack & Lindsey Dorn, and Madison & Michael Dorn.  He is also survived by his sister, Elizabeth Snow & husband Stephen of Yarmouthport, MA, along with many loving in-laws, nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, May 27 from 4:00 to 8:00PM at the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home 74 Elm St. Quincy Center. Family and friends are invited. On Wednesday there will be a gathering at the funeral home at 10:30AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 12:00PM at St. Francis of Assisi Church 856 Washington St. Braintree. Burial is at Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Michael P. Dorn to the Massachusetts General Hospital, Genitourinary Cancer Center, 100 Cambridge Street, Suite 1300, Boston, MA 02114.
