Panfilo DeSantis of Quincy passed away quietly on December 29, 2012 at age 87. Born in Indrodacqua, Italy, he was involved in the Italian efforts to conceal British soldiers during WWII. After emigrating here in 1948 he lived in Dorchester where he and his business partner, Amerigo Federico, proudly owned and operated Ricci and DeSantis Construction Company. Panfilo enjoyed bowling and was a huge fan of the Red Sox and of western movies, particularly those starring John Wayne.
The beloved brother of Gilda DiCenso of Quincy, he was the loving uncle of Rocco DeCenso and his wife Maria of Stoughton, great-uncle of Daniel DiCenso of Stoughton and his girlfriend Maria Kasparian of Somerville, Alessia DiCenso and her fiance Noah Symynkywicz of Stoughton, Diane DeSantis, Francine Gordon and her husband Jim and Joe DeSantis; and is also survived by many loving cousins and relatives. He was pre-deceased by his siblings, Gino DeSantis, Orazio DeSantis and Amalia DeSantis and his brother-in-law, Guerino DiCenso.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, January 2 from 4:00 to 8:00PM at the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home 74 Elm St. Quincy Center. Family and friends are invited. On Thursday there will be a gathering at the funeral home at 9:00AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00AM at St. Joseph’s Church 550 Washington St. Quincy. Burial is at St. Michael’s Cemetery, Boston. Donations in Panfilo’s memory may be made to the American Lung Assoc. 460 Totten Pond Rd. Suite 400, Waltham, MA 02451 lungne.org.
