Raymond A. O’Toole passed away in North Providence, RI on Sunday, August 28, 2014 at age 90. Born in Quincy where he was raised and educated, he was the 1942 103 lb Massachusetts High School Wrestling Champion. After joining the U.S. Army in WWII, he was deployed to the Pacific Theater and served for 23 months. During his service Ray made 3 Amphibious Island Landings and was awarded the Philippines Liberation Medals and the Victory Medal. He was discharged at the rank of corporal from the 281st Coastal Artillery Battalion. A 50 year resident of the Beacon Hill section of Boston, Raymond worked 15 years for the New York Central Rail Road, and retired from the M.B.T.A. after 20 years of service in new construction. He had a lifelong passion for golfing and recorded 50 years of play at Ponkapoag course in Canton.

The son of the late Owen and Mary (Moriarty) O’Toole Raymond was the brother of the late Miriam Burke, Barbara Fitzgerald, Eleanor Wrightman and Owen O’Toole and is survived by 11 nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, September 5 from 10:00 to 11:00AM immediately followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00AM at the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home 74 Elm St. Quincy Center. Family and friends are invited. Burial with Military Honors will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, W. Quincy.
