Richard E. Holbert of Braintree passed away at Braintree Manor Nursing Home on Friday, August 14, 2009 at age 78. He worked as a shipper and inspector for Peters and Co. Sheet Metal in Dorchester for many years and at Boston Metal Door in Arlington. A Korean War Veteran, he earned a Bronze Star for his heroic actions in Kunu-ri on November 30, 1950, where he led a blocked convoy past 26 stalled and abandoned vehicles and made a new river crossing under intense shelling, grenades and gunfire. He was a past Grand Knight in the Knights of Columbus in Roxbury.

The son of the late Arless and Winifred (Evelyn) Holbert, he was the brother of Mary Ellen Fisher , Martha Holbert and Bernard Holbert, all of Reading and is also survived by his friend Delores Murray of Quincy and many nieces and nephews.

Mr Holbert was buried in Blue Hill Cemetery in Braintree on August 17, 2009. Services were omitted.
