At Thanksgiving, we are thankful for our friendship with Bob and celebrate his life. Buck met Bob early in his journey to Hawaii and early in Bob's journey to Hawaii as well. Jan met them both in her first year at the University of Hawa'i at Manoa. There were some seriously good times as we all partied hard back then, We will miss Bob's intelligent soul and his fun-loving, hard-headed free spirit, Still, we have good memories. Aloha 'oe Bob. Bob and I were quick friends when we met in the summer of 1961. The number of Wessegusset hangouts grew as time passed, as did the enjoyment and now the memories. Bob was an especially close friend who called frequently, especially around the time of presidential elections. I was very impressed when he said he read all of the LBJ volumes in the series and could retain what he read. I kept all of the letters he sent me via air mail during this early days in Hawaii. At the end of one of his visits I asked him if he was coming back to the mainland, or was he going to die in Hawaii. His quick response: "I have no intention of dying." I wish he had more authority over his destiny. I'm sad. I will miss him greatly. I thank his family for bringing him back home, and for the opportunity it brings to say goodbye to Muggs, a wonderful friend and memory-maker.
