Sarah J. “Sally” (Doherty) Loonie of Quincy passed away on Monday, December 12, 2011 surrounded by her loving family at the age of 86. Born in Boston she was raised and educated in Charlestown and she has lived the past 10 years in Quincy. She worked for many years for the city of Boston for the D.P.W. as a payroll supervisor.

Sally was the beloved wife of the late Edward F. Loonie; loving mother of Karen M. Ross and her husband Robert of Quincy, Michael F. Loonie and his wife Joanne of Longmeadow, MA; dear grandmother to Andrew, Emily, Julie, and Steven Ross, Christopher, Justin, and David Loonie; sister of Rita Coughlan of Charlestown, John Doherty of Braintree, Bernard Doherty, Cecilia Doherty, and Rosemary Swanson all of Medford, and the late Thomas Doherty, Patrick Doherty, and Catherine Donovan; and she is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, December 15 from 4:00 to 8:00PM at the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home 74 Elm St. Quincy Center. Family and friends are invited. On Friday there will be a gathering at the funeral home at 9:00AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00AM at Holy Trinity Parish, Our Lady of Good Counsel Church 227 Sea St. Quincy. Burial will be at Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton, MA.
