Thomas C. Galgana passed away on May 13, 2019 at age 71. Growing up in Quincy, MA, he attended Broad Meadows Junior High School and Quincy Vocational Trade School, graduating as a finish carpenter and auto mechanic. He later pursued a career as a commercial lobsterman and fished the waters of Quincy and Boston Harbor. Tom also fished for giant blue fin tuna on Cape Cod Bay and the waters of Gloucester, Maine, Martha’s Vineyard and Chatham. The commercial trap supply he founded in Plymouth, MA continues on today. An avid inventor, he invented and patented components for lobster traps such as plastic molded entrance ways into the traps and injection molded plastic buoys to find the traps, A great and talented mechanic, Tom built hot rods in his younger years and taught his younger brother Michael how to do the same.

Tom was the son of Joseph R Galgana, a retired United States Navy Chief boiler technician First Class, who served in World War II in the Pacific and Korean War. His mother Alice Marie Neilson Galgana was born in Dorchester. She had the full-time job of raising 5 children. Susan, Joseph, Thomas, Linda and Michael while her husband was in World War II and Korea.

Tom was very talented and knew how to fix anything that was broken always helping others when they needed help, He loved Quincy Mayor Thomas P. Koch who helped all the residents of Quincy during the march 2018 Nor’easter that wiped out much of the South Shore and flooded Adam Shore.

Words cannot describe how much Tom will be missed. He is survived by his son Thomas Charles Jr., his daughter Nicole; his brothers Joseph and Michael Galgana; grandchildren Marissa Lee Dykeman and Acelyn and Blaze Osborne; 3 great-grandchildren; as well as other family members: Kim, Dana, Joe Jr Galgana, Michele and Michael A. Galgana, Frank Meroney, Whitney Howell.

He was loved by all and hated by few. He had his own way of doing things and that was Tom’s way. Tom’s way was always the right way! Well, maybe sometimes. No matter what obstacles got in his way he fought through them. Always a fighter, Tom believed in standing up for your rights and took crap from nobody. His project of building two homes on Gannett Road is tribute to his determination and not taking no for an answer. “Where there’s a will there’s a way,” he would always say. He loved fishing, the calm sea, the peace and quiet of not hearing any phones or dealing with anything except a fishing rod. That’s where he found happiness.

He will be loved and missed by all. Rest in peace. Love, brothers Mike and Joe

On June 1st there will be a private visitation in Quincy from 1 to 3 pm and services at 3 pm with a celebration of life reception gathering following. In leu of flowers a donation to help with funeral and medical expenses will be helpful. Please contact Mike Galgana 954-594-6848.
