Thomas E. Woods of Whitman passed away on Wednesday, June 17, 2020 at age 79. The beloved husband of Ann Marie (Morris) Woods, he was father of Thomas Stracqualursi and his girlfriend Elizabeth Manney of Leominster; son of the late Robert E. and Agnes (Cullinane) Woods; loving brother of Debbie Keeger and her husband Frank of Rochester, NH, Gerri Woods and Richard Woods of Stoughton and the late Robert Woods, Jr., Donald Woods and Barbara Bent; brother-in-law of John Morris and the late Pat Morris of Hanover. He was the beloved uncle to many nieces, nephews and nephews-in-law and is also survived by many cousins and wonderful friends, especially his “Vegas crew.”

A graduate of Boston Latin and UMass Boston, Tom worked in the Boston Post Office for many years as an EAP counselor and at the New England Shelter for Homeless Veterans as a substance abuse counselor. He was a Retired DAV and a friend of Bill’s for 48 years. Football was his favorite sport and he was unbelievably a fan of the Miami Dolphins, “the winningest team ever” He loved to travel and had the trip of a lifetime to Sicily with his wife and brother and sister-in-law, John and Pat. But his favorite place in the world was Las Vegas with their best friends. He was never more in his element than when sitting at a 3 card poker table.

A movie lover, he enjoyed regaling everyone with another story for the first or hundredth time. A generous man, he loved giving gifts to his nieces and nephews. Whether they were family or friends, he was an uncle to them all. No matter whose birthday it was, he sat at the head of the table and always got the first piece of cake. At their yearly Yankee swap, they had a sign that said “What would Tom want?” There will be such a void at gatherings now. Tom was bigger than life and will be missed forever and a day.

Family and friends are invited to visiting hours on Tuesday, June 23 from 4:00 to 8:00PM at the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home 74 Elm St. Quincy Center. Burial with Military Honors will take place at the MA National Cemetery in Bourne at a later date.
