Thomas Patrick Hughes passed away on July 2, 2010 at the age of 71 .

Tom was a lifelong resident of Quincy and communicant of St. Mary’s Church. The son of late Quincy Police Chief Joseph F. Hughes and Rose (Carullo) Hughes, he was the brother of the late Mary (Hughes) Donovan, Joseph F. Hughes, Jr., and Veronica (Hughes) Caples. Tom is survived by his sister Helen (Hughes) Brown of Annandale VA, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Tom graduated from St. Mary’s School, Quincy High School, and Boston State College. After service in the US Army, he was a manager at Purity Supreme in Quincy. Tom began his career in public service with the District Attorney’s Drug Awareness and Youth Diversion Programs. Tom was elected Registrar of Probate for Norfolk County in 1978, and served until his retirement in 2000.

Tom was devoted to his family and friends. In his retirement, he enjoyed gardening and cooking. For many years Tom hosted holiday dinners, an elaborate Super Bowl party, and an August clambake for family, friends and extended family.

Thomas Patrick Hughes was interred in the family plot at Mount Wollaston Cemetery in a private ceremony.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Tom’s memory be made to a charity of your choice.
