Walter J. Hurley, Jr. of Merrymount, Quincy passed away on Sunday, January 13, 2018 at age 87. A lifelong Quincy resident, he was the Owner and Founder of Hurley’s Boat Rental in Houghs Neck. He started out clamming in Quincy Bay and began his venture in 1955 with 10 boats to rent. The fleet grew to over 100 boats with people coming from around the country to fish in the “Flounder Capital of the World.” Walter was also an avid skier and he enjoyed trips to his New Hampshire home. He was a lifetime member of both Quincy Yacht Club and Town River Yacht Club.

The beloved husband of Joyce M. (Marcel) Hurley, Walter was the loving father of Jeannine M. Hurley-Kardoos of Hingham and
Kris-Anne Hardiman of Norwell; dear grandfather of Chloe, Natalie, Rebecca and Walter; beloved brother of Jack Hurley and his wife Carol of Scituate, Janice Wood of E. Sandwich and Stephen Hurley and his wife Christine of Hingham; and is also survived by his nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and many close friends.

Family and friends are invited to visiting hours which will be held on Wednesday, January 16 from 4:00 to 8:00PM at the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home 74 Elm St. Quincy Center. On Thursday there will be a gathering at the funeral home at 9:30AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30AM at Holy Trinity Parish, Most Blessed Sacrament Church 1015 Sea St. Quincy. Cremation will follow.
