William J. Cornwell of Quincy passed away on Friday, July 20, 2012 at age 88. A WWII Navy Veteran, he was born in Cambridge where he was raised and educated and worked in ship design at General Dynamics and later for the IRS. The loving husband of the late Dorothy (Basher) Cornwell and the late Eleanor (Sweeney) Kennedy Cornwell, William was the beloved father of William J. Cornwell, Jr. of Weymouth, Joseph M. Cornwell of Quincy, Charles F. Cornwell of Standish, ME, Thomas E. Cornwell of Pawtucket, RI and the late Michael B. Cornwell of Quincy; dear grandfather of Maria McDonald, Lureena and Theresa Cornwell; and beloved brother of Margaret Dougherty of FL and the late Joseph Cornwell.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday, July 23 from 4:00 to 8:00PM at the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home 74 Elm St. Quincy Center. Family and friends are invited. On Tuesday there will be a gathering at the funeral home at 9:00AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00AM at St. Monica’s Church 331 Old Colony Ave, So. Boston. Burial with Military Honors will be at MA National Cemetery, Bourne at 1:30PM.
