William J. Payne, Sr. of East Weymouth passed away at Colonial Rehab & Nursing Center on Thursday, January 28, 2010 at age 92. Born in Dedham where he was raised and educated, he lived in Weymouth since 1950. A WWII Army veteran, he served in the 62nd Signal Battalion in Italy and the Pacific Theater. William was a truck mechanic for the town of Weymouth for 20 years before retiring in 1982 and then worked at his son’s business, Payne’s Welding in Abington.
The beloved husband for 61 years of Violet V. (Knight) Payne, he was the loving father of William J. Payne, Jr. and his wife Julie of Quincy, June C. Lewis of Rockland and David J. Payne of Abington, dear grandfather of Daniel, Diane, David, Lauren, Sheilah and Kristine, great grandfather of Ariana, Braydon, Calvin and Shawn, brother of the late Robert and Arthur Payne, Ruth Cormack and Mildred Oberacker and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, February 1 from 4:00 to 8:00pm at the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home 74 Elm St. Quincy Center. Family and friends are invited. On Tuesday there will be a Funeral Service at the funeral home at 11:00am. Burial is at Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton.
