William P. Doyle, Jr. of Hingham, formerly of Quincy, passed away on Thursday, November 19, 2015 at age 87. Raised and educated in South Boston, he lived in the Hough’s Neck section of Quincy for 49 years before moving to Linden Ponds in 2006. Will enlisted in the United States Navy on his 17th birthday, and after his service, he attended Northwest Louisiana State University where he was a member of the gymnastics team. He worked a variety of jobs, from lifeguard to collecting tolls in the Callahan tunnel, but found his career in the Boston Fire Department, where he spent 25 years before retiring as a captain in 1980. During his time as a fireman, his station mates knew him as a man who led by example, illustrated by his being awarded for meritorious service from the City of Boston for his selfless valor in rescuing a woman from a burning building. After his retirement, he worked part-time for the Patriot Ledger for more than a decade.

A lifelong Catholic, Will was a long-time parishioner at Most Blessed Sacrament Church, where he was a member of the Holy Name Society.

The beloved husband of the late Jean (Simpson) Doyle, all who knew Will knew that his family always came first for him. He was the devoted father of Judith Doyle Capone and her husband Harold of Sandwich, William P. Doyle, III and his wife Marianthi Markopoulos of Hingham, and Christopher F. Doyle and his wife Tia of Iowa City, IA; dear grandfather of Carey, Justin, Eric, Jillian, Declan, Donovan, Dillon and Damian, and great-grandfather of Liam. Will also leaves his twin sister, Anne Hawes, his brother, Francis X. Doyle and his wife Geraldine and his sister, Patricia Vuilleumier, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to visiting hours which will be held on Monday, November 23 from 4:00 to 8:00PM at the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home 74 Elm St. Quincy Center. On Tuesday there will be a gathering at the funeral home at 9:00AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00AM at Holy Trinity Parish, Most Blessed Sacrament Church 1015 Sea St. Quincy.
