Joan E. (Thomas) Handrahan of Weymouth passed away on Wednesday May 17, 2023 at the age of 82. Raised in Quincy, Joan attended St. Joseph’s School in Quincy and graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Weymouth.

Joan worked for the family business, the Quincy Syrian Bakery, where she met her husband Jim who owned the gas station across the street. She also worked for many years as a member of Teamsters Local 25 for Jordan Marsh and Building 19. Joan had a deep faith in God and lived her life with kindness, thoughtfulness, and caring to people and animals alike. She was always there if someone was in need and enjoyed visiting the Veterans’ home where her nephew Michael stayed. She never visited anyone without bringing candy or something sweet. Joan truly believed that animals are precious miracles – especially her pet cat “Mona baby!”.

Daughter of Angelina (Copolla) and Alexander Thomas, Joan was the beloved wife of the late James Handrahan; loving mother of Karen Mosca and her husband Michael of Marlborough, Thomas Handrahan and his wife Dianne of Pembroke; dear grandmother of Michael and Nicholas Mosca and James Handrahan; cherished sister of John Thomas of Hingham and his wife Margaret. She was predeceased by brothers George Thomas and Robert Thomas. Joan is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be conducted at the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home, 74 Elm Street, Quincy, on Monday, May 22 at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visitation prior to the service from 9 – 11 a.m.
